I just wanted to show you guys what 80% of all my time goes to. (the other 10% are work and the last 10% is everyting else) My lovely agapornis, aka lovebirds. I love these little lives with all my heart. They give so much joy and companionship. From the top:
1. Ari (means Eagle in Icelandic), a Fischeri male 2: Tonta (means stupid in Spanish), a Fischeri female 3: Diablo, a Roseicollis male 4: Rain, a Roseicollis Female (mutaded colors) 5: Knuttis, a Roseicollis Male
Ari and Tonta are a couple and Diablo and Rain are a couple. Knuttis has a girl to, but shes not o this pic
So cute.. Did you have to clip their wings or are they that tame that they'll stay with you no matter what?
I've never had any Agapornis, but I have had some grass-parkeets in my life.. I got the first one from my grandfather when I was still 12 years old or so.. (together with a tame chicken, but that's another story XD) Pieter was it's name, he was hand feed, raised and extremely tame.. When his wings grew back, you'd only have to chirp with your lips and he came flying to the rescue to nibble on yours ears and in your neck .. Alas he got sick and died very young.. They are so fragile! But also smart, very smart..
Nop, they arent wing cliped, and never have been. In my opinion they have wings for a reason (flying duh!) and one shouldnt deprive them of that right. As yuo can see, thay han be as tame as you want them to be without mutilateting.
Oooh grass-parkeets are so beautiful! My friend has one and god he's sweet. And doesnt scream as much as mine do :S tame chicken.. sounds interesting... Sad that Pieter died, they sure are senitive against.. well everything basacly and they are soo good at hiding their sickness.

Isn't the term 'mutilation' a bit harsh? XD That makes me some kind of extreme evil and devilish person in your perspective.. My mom has two parkeets now, but those aren't hand raised so they arent all too tame.. We clipped them to the point where they can just reach the tree and fly back to their cage again. They are still free to go but won't clash against the window if they're startled all of a sudden..
*nods* Yes they are sensitive :S In the morning he was still all cheery, that afternoon he breathing heavy and we went to the vet with him.. that evening he died.. They can be gone in a day..
This part is quite interesting actualy, cause in sweden its actualy seen by most ppl in the "birdcomunity" as animal cruelty to clipp a birds wings. But like in every other cuntery its "standard". And plz dont take this peronal, it wasnt ment as a bad comment to you
None of my birds are handrear (With ist also seen as depriving birds of basacly everyting they are by doing so in sweden) And they are really tamed aswell, they are just alot more independent.

I can see your point of view on it though.. Although I believe there is a difference between grounding them completely and limiting their flight distance.. Also birdies from the parrotfamily are still so handy.. First of all they can run like crazy and then they have their amazing beak which they use for just anything.. If you were to clip a canary, the poor lil bird would be totally helpless...
When is enough enough... What difference does it make when popular artist vent vent vent and support a site that tolerates deviant behaviour. HA! no wonder its all in a name.
